Available for new work

Book a free call. Talk to the one doing the work.

Thirty minutes. Say what the store is doing, and talk it through with the person who would fix it. If I can help, I will say so. If I can’t, I will point you to someone who can.

  • Free, and booked in one short step
  • With DC, not an account manager
  • Priced per project, agreed before any work starts

The calendar

It comes from the booking provider, so it loads only when you ask for it. Nothing from them is on this page until then.

What the first call sounds like

Stop guessing and count

First call, reassembled00:02:14 to 00:03:11
  1. Store owner · 00:02:14

Sessions are up and sales are down. Conversion was above two per cent for a year and it’s about one now.

  2. DC · 00:02:31

On every template, or on one?

  3. Store owner · 00:02:36

I don’t know. I can’t replicate it. It’s like hunting a ghost in the machine.

  4. DC · 00:02:49

Then we stop guessing and count. Ninety days of logs will tell us which browser, which template and which hour.

  5. Store owner · 00:03:05

The last agency said it was the theme.

  6. DC · 00:03:11

It might be. I’d want to read it before I said so.

DC’s lines are his own. The store owner’s are written in the buyer’s register from public pain-point research, not a named person.

Before you book

What thirty minutes is for

What it covers

  • Working out what’s actually wrong, or what you actually need built, in plain English
  • Whether it’s a job for me, for someone else, or for nobody yet
  • Which audit or piece of work would answer the question, and what it costs
  • Magento, Shopify, WooCommerce, Laravel, Django, Next.js, and the ERP, PIM and payment systems around them

What it does not

  • A quote for a build: that comes in writing, once the work has been scoped
  • Fixing the problem live on the call
  • A sales pitch: if nothing needs doing, you’ll hear that

Is the call really free?

Yes.

There’s no charge and nothing to sign. It’s thirty minutes to find out whether there’s work worth doing, and whether I’m the right person for it.

  • What should I have ready?

The site’s address, the platform it runs on, and what’s changed or what you’re trying to do. Numbers help if you have them, such as conversion before and after, but you don’t need logins or access for a first call.

  • What happens after the call?

If there’s a fit, you get the next step in writing: either an audit at its published price, or a scope and a price for the work. Nothing starts until you’ve agreed it, on written terms, with a deposit.

  • How is work priced?

The audits have fixed, published prices, and the complete audit is quoted. Build, rescue and CTO work is priced per project, on what it’s worth to you, so there’s no day rate or rate card.

    See which audit fits
  • Where are your clients?

Mostly the UK, the EU, the US and Canada, and I’m happy to talk about work anywhere else. The same written terms and deposit apply wherever you are.

  • Can I write instead of talking?

Yes. The contact page opens an email addressed to me, and a person reads it.

    Write instead
