Services · one developer, North Wales, UK

Ecommerce development, hired from one person.

I'm DC, a freelance developer and systems architect. The five services below are things you can buy by name, each with its own page, its own scope and its own price model. Every one of them is done by me, from the first call to the last deploy.

Each service, in more detail

What you can hire, and when each one fits

Five things you can buy by name. Each has its own page with the scope, the process and what can go wrong; this is enough to choose between them.

Freelance developer builds

New platforms, rebuilds and custom software

Magento and Adobe Commerce, Shopify and Shopify Plus, WooCommerce, a CMS, or software that fits no platform at all. Underneath the platforms sit the languages: PHP and Laravel, Python and Django, JavaScript and TypeScript with Next.js. SaaS products are designed on paper before a line of code is written, so the expensive decisions are made while they are still cheap to change.

Integrations

The system you need connected, by name

Stock that disagrees between the warehouse and the website, orders keyed in twice, marketplaces selling what you no longer have, an email platform that only knows what a plugin tells it, a payment gateway to add or switch. Integrations are organised by the kind of system being connected: ERP, order management, PIM, warehouse and fulfilment, marketplaces, email and payments.

Stalled build rescue

A project that won’t ship, on any stack

The job is to find out what is really finished, what only looks finished, and the shortest route to something customers can use. I once spent twelve months inside a failing two-year project, then rebuilt it myself in under four months once it was clear that patching it would not get it over the line.

AI and automation

A repetitive task, named first, then automated

Not a chatbot bolted to the home page. The work starts with a task your team does by hand every day, such as reconciling orders, rewriting product copy or chasing the same data between systems, and decides whether AI, a plain script or an existing app is the right tool. Sometimes the answer is an app you can buy today, and I’ll say so.

Fractional and interim CTO

Senior technical leadership, with an agreed end

For a business with no senior technical person, or one whose technical lead has just left: architecture decisions, platform choices, roadmaps, hiring and vendor calls. Fractional means a few days a month, ongoing. Interim means full-time cover for a known period. I’ll tell you if what you actually need is a lead developer.

Same terms whichever you hire

How any of these runs, and what I don’t take on

What it covers

  • A free thirty-minute call first: you explain the situation, I say whether I can help and what the first step is
  • A written scope and a price before work starts, based on the value of the work rather than an open-ended day rate
  • Remote by default from North Wales, with clients in the UK, the EU, the US and Canada, and on site when the job needs it, with travel in the price
  • Every engagement runs on written terms, with a deposit before work starts, wherever you are
  • One person throughout: the person who scoped it writes the code and answers the email
  • You own everything that ships: code, accounts, documentation

What it does not

  • High-volume brochure websites, logos and brand design
  • Projects that need a full development team from the first week
  • Contracts whose procurement rules allow only agencies
  • Mentoring and training, which sit under Learning instead

How much does a freelance ecommerce developer cost?

Each project is priced on what it delivers, after the scope is clear, rather than on a published hourly rate. The published prices are the audits: a £500 health check, a £950 visual audit and a backend audit from £1,200.

Should I hire a freelancer or an agency?

An agency makes sense when the job genuinely needs several people working in parallel, or a partner badge is a contract requirement. A freelancer makes sense when you want the senior person doing the work rather than supervising it, and one line of contact. Plenty of projects suit either, and I’ll say which I think yours is.

Which service do I need if I can’t name the problem?

Start with a health check. It looks at one area of the store from the outside, costs £500, and tells you in plain English what is wrong, so the next spend is aimed at the right thing.

Do you work alongside an existing developer or agency?

Yes. I’ve spent much of my career inside agencies, and I can slot into an existing team, review someone else’s work, or take a specific piece off their hands.

Which platforms and languages do you work in?

Magento and Adobe Commerce, Shopify, WooCommerce and headless CMSs, in PHP and Laravel, Python and Django, and JavaScript and TypeScript with Next.js.

Do you work with clients outside the UK?

Yes. I’m based in North Wales and most clients are in the UK, the EU, the US and Canada, but I’m open to work from any country. Everything runs remotely by default, on the same written terms, with a deposit before work starts.
